Maths turn upside down (by @T_of_the_P)

Yesterday’s lesson was fantastic!!!! It literally reinterested me in maths. I learnt what I thought I’d never learn. How maths doesn’t always make logical sense, and that really interests me. I’d also never learnt much about sequences, and that was an awesome introduction. Why it interested me? It made me rethink what maths is and what it can do.

The subject I think will be most interesting (to myself) would have to be the paradoxes. I’m not quite sure why, but I haven’t really looked at this much in the past and I’m curious about how it works (even thought it doesn’t).

Looking forward to an awesome semester,

First lesson of Exploring Maths (by @keshini98)

Hello!

I found the first
lesson very interesting. I learned that thinking in a different way may produce results which are not usually expected. What may seem logical may not always be the answer, and can be quite controversial. I was surprised at how the
series resulted in a negative fraction.

Out of all the
topics on the list, I find “Paradoxes: When Maths doesn’t make sense”
the most appealing because it sounds intriguing. The first lesson proved that math can be very
confusing and can contradict itself, so I would like to see more examples of this and explore the idea of paradoxes.

Homework 1 (by @sexyguy7890)

(I don’t know if this will work :/)
1.Yesterday we had the first lesson of ‘Exploring Mathematics’ and it was already mind-blowing. The series that was introduced did actually make me think. It was surprising because it looked like a simple equation but the result came out as completely different answer. In the end 1+2+3+4+…= -1/12. It came out as a negative and as a fraction which surprised me.

2. The topic that I predict it will be interesting is ‘Paradoxes: When Mathematics Doesn’t Make Sense,’ because sometimes maths makes no sense like the series given and I became interested in that.

Introduction into ‘exploring maths’! (@divyav99)

Through the study of various series I learnt that in maths there is not always one definite answer. This not only surprised me but made me wonder how a series that I once thought leads to infinity results in a number that is not only a negative but is a fraction.

I am looking forward to studying the topic of Cryptography: The Mathematics of Secrecy as I enjoy encrypting codes using ciphers to denote secret messages.

Our First Lesson and My Thoughts by @happynikitakk

Form our first lesson of
Exploring Maths I learnt that maths is quite a creative subject. What may
appear at first obvious, at second glance may turn out to be quite fascinating.
Just as the proof that we were presented with on our first day which showed
that 1+2+3+4+5….to infinity=-1/12. The idea at first seemed dumbfounding;
however the proof made perfect sense. I’d always thought math to be a
subject that was logical, structured and definite. But, I have learned it’s
quite the opposite. Surprisingly, it can often be illogical, infinite and
undefined.

The topic of paradoxes immediately
grabbed my attention. Paradoxes generally intrigue me. The simple fact that a
question, especially in a subject like maths, doesn’t have a definite answer seems
exciting. In a strange way I want maths to baffle and amaze me. Looking forward
to it making me think.

Beautiful Maths (by @JeevMaths)

What I  have learnt  from yesterday’s  lesson  was that Math always has ‘many faces’, and that these faces  all have logical answers, yet they contradict  each other. This was surprising as  I  always thought that a maths problem had only one answer and one true answer.

The topic I found interesting was   the  topic of Beauty in Math, because this topic had  interesting sub-topics  like magical numbers  and music, and I am interested to learn how they  relate.

Maths is surprisingly interesting :) (by @fufujackattack)

Hello!

In the first lesson of “exploring mathematics” I learnt that Maths can be surprisingly interesting. I think it was the sense that I was exposed to something much more different to the usual maths lesson. It has made me see maths very differently now!

I can’t wait for the topic Paradoxes: When Mathematics Doesn’t Make Sense because of what I learnt in the first lesson and I am VERY excited to learn more about when Maths ACTUALLY does not make sense :).

Yay!

Exploring Maths Intro (by brendanmckee99)

I guess the main thing that I learnt from yesterday’s lesson was that if you think differently you can get results that you would not normally expect. I found it suprising that you could get a very strange result out of a series by thinking differently and using methods that are not normally possible.

Of the topics that we will do I think that fractals look interesting. I’ve always thought that the pictures that can be made by them look pretty cool, and I am interested to learn more about the maths behind it all.

Amazing Maths(@kewalbro)

I found that maths can go into great depths, in which logic turns into confusion. Yesterday learning how numbers adding to infinity can become something quite unexpected.

Paradox is the topic that I like because seeing numbers that are not expected from certain equation creates a surprised feeling inside me.

First Maths Cths Post (By @LWM_Vincent)

I learnt a lot about the world of maths about how simple questions can lead to confusing answers. It was crazy to believe something that leads to infinity ends up to be a completely strange and random number.

Paradoxes: When Mathematics Doesn’t Make Sense is such an intresting subject as it goes on and on about stuff that end up leading you to something you won’t expect and that just doesn’t make sense.
